MS CID: Acidic Descaler for Milking Lines and Cooling Tanks

The Acid Cycle in Milking System Cleaning

Effective milking circuit hygiene requires two complementary cleaning cycles: alkaline washing to remove organic soil (fat, protein, biofilm) and acid descaling to remove mineral deposits. MS CID is the acid descaler in the MS range, designed to dissolve limescale, milkstone, and other calcium and magnesium mineral deposits that build up in milking pipelines, heat exchangers, plate coolers, and bulk tanks.

Mineral deposits form from the calcium and magnesium salts naturally present in milk and in hard water used for cleaning circuits. These deposits are not removed by alkaline cleaning alone — in fact, residues from incomplete alkaline cycles can incorporate into mineral deposits, making them harder to remove if acid descaling is not performed regularly.

Acid Chemistry and Protective Additives

MS CID uses acid chemistry (phosphoric acid or similar) combined with additives that:

  • Prevent corrosion of stainless steel circuit components — critical because repeated exposure to acid without inhibitors would gradually etch milking equipment surfaces
  • Sequester dissolved minerals to keep them in solution and flush them from the circuit, preventing re-deposition as the acid solution cools
  • Protect rubber seals and gaskets from chemical degradation over repeated use cycles

This combination of effective descaling and equipment protection allows MS CID to be used in the regular acid cycle (typically every one to three days, alternating with alkaline MS CLEAN washing) without shortening equipment service life.

Frequency and Use Concentration

Recommended use frequency depends on water hardness and milk throughput. Operations in hard-water regions should descale more frequently — possibly daily — while soft-water farms can often extend to every two or three days. Use concentration is typically 0.3–0.5% in water at temperatures suited to acid cleaning (acid cycles generally run cooler than alkaline cycles, as high temperature combined with acid can accelerate corrosion).
