Minimum Order Quantities for Dairy Hygiene Products: What to Expect

·2 min read

Why Minimum Order Quantities Exist

Minimum order quantities (MOQs) for exported dairy hygiene products exist because manufacturing, filling, labeling, and export documentation have fixed costs that must be spread across a minimum volume to be economical for the manufacturer. A 100-liter order costs nearly the same in fixed overhead as a 2,000-liter order, but the per-liter price at 100 liters would be prohibitive.

For international buyers, MOQs are an important planning input that determines what you can trial before committing to larger annual volumes.

Typical MOQ Structure for Dairy Hygiene Exports from Turkey

While AgroLyne-specific MOQs should be confirmed directly, typical structures in the Turkish dairy hygiene export space are:

Individual product (single SKU): Most Turkish manufacturers require a minimum of 200–1,000 liters per SKU per order for liquid products. Teat dips are typically 200–500 liters minimum per product; milking system cleaners may have similar or lower minimums depending on product pack size.

Pallet-based minimums: Many exporters quote in full pallet quantities. A pallet of 25-liter cans typically holds 40 cans (1,000 liters per pallet). A pallet of 5-liter bottles holds 200 bottles (1,000 liters). Full-pallet ordering simplifies logistics and typically provides the best unit pricing.

Container-level purchase: A full 20-foot container holds approximately 17–20 pallets, or 17,000–20,000 liters of liquid product. Container-level orders unlock the lowest per-liter pricing and reduce ocean freight cost per unit. This is the target for established annual supply relationships.

Planning a First Order

For a first import order from a new supplier, a practical approach:

  1. Select 2–3 products that cover your most immediate need (one pre-milking dip, one post-milking dip, one milking circuit cleaner)
  2. Order one pallet of each (or the supplier's single-product minimum) for a trial
  3. Evaluate product performance on-farm or with your distribution customers over 60–90 days
  4. Scale to container-level orders once product performance is confirmed

This approach limits first-order risk while generating enough product to evaluate meaningfully. A single pallet per product in a shared container with other Turkish exports is often feasible to arrange through a Turkish freight forwarder.
