How to Import Dairy Hygiene Products: A Buyer's Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Identify What You Need

Before approaching a supplier, specify what you are buying:

• Product category: pre-milking teat dip, post-milking teat dip, milking circuit cleaner, footbath product, farm disinfectant
• Active ingredient preference: iodine, lactic acid, chlorhexidine, quaternary ammonium, peracetic acid — or ask the supplier to recommend based on your use case
• Format: concentrate (if you have dosing capability) or ready-to-use

Ask for pricing on:

• Ex Works (EXW): you arrange freight from the supplier's factory. Full control, you see the factory-gate price clearly.
• CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight): supplier arranges and prices the freight to your port. Convenient for first shipments.
• FOB: supplier delivers to the port of export; you arrange ocean freight.

For Turkish suppliers, EXW pricing from the manufacturing facility is common. Adding freight cost to your port gives you a clear landed cost comparison.

Step 4: Arrange a Trial Order

For a first shipment, order a quantity that lets you test the product on-farm or with your distributor customers without overcommitting inventory. One to three pallets is typical for a trial. Confirm the minimum order quantity with the supplier.

Step 5: Handle Customs Clearance
